Being a Teacher

For each Liberty Camp, we assemble a team of five to seven talented, free-spirited individuals from around the world who are motivated to contribute their time and energy to several days of intensive English-language interaction with students in small class groups. Outside the classes, evening activities such as debates, skits, campfire conversations and songs, and the closing night’s talent show provide many opportunities for less-formal interactions. A better term than “teacher” to describe this role would be “discussion leader” or “facilitator”. Since the primary purpose of the camp is to practice speaking English, the ability to keep students engaged in meaningful conversation—plus familiarity with classical liberal ideas—is more important and effective than being an expert in any particular subject matter. We look for an interesting combination of these qualities:
