LIBERTY ENGLISH CAMP 2006, TRAKAI, LITHUANIA -- Camp Schedule
Day One -- 29 June Teachers and organizers arrive; spend late afternoon - evening together informally, getting acquainted. This is in Vilnius, not at the camp location. Day Two -- 30 June Teachers/organizers go to the camp location early afternoon, unpack, set up, look around. In mid-late afternoon, there's an organization/orientation meeting, which may include practice sessions/role playing for new teachers, to get comfortable with the camp "teaching style". Students arrive by late afternoon, in time for a welcome BBQ/campfire and brief orientation. We have booked the same facilities as last year; i.e., the school building in Trakai town, by the lake. Day Three -- 1 July First full day of class sessions. Each session is one hour -- two in the morning, three in the afternoon. Between breakfast and the first session, we hope to have guest speakers again from the Lithuanian Free Market Institute (LFMI), who have given us much support over the years. We have five "class periods" and five teachers (minimum), so we divide the students into five groups. Every hour, the student groups move to a different teacher (like US high school). Each teacher repeats the same "lesson" for each group, and teaches a different lesson each day. Day Four -- 2 July Second day of class. This might actually be only half day, with the afternoon devoted to a tour to see the local sights, with the afternoon lessons to be made up another day. Day Five -- 3 July Third day of class. This might be a full day, or another half day consisting of the lessons remaining from Day Four. A free afternoon could be used to prepare for debates. Evening activities include debates, movies, campfires, and informal music-making. Day Six -- 4 July Fourth full day of class. Since this is the final full day together, we have an evening program consisting of, for example, a boat trip on the lake, then a BBQ and campfire. Although the camp is not an "American event", we will all celebrate freedom together today with a fireworks display over the lake. Day Seven -- 5 July Closing/departure day. After breakfast, we spend 2-3 hours in closing activities, all together as a group -- certificates, special thanks, and some sort of talent show. The final lunch is served at the normal time. People leave at various times during the day, depending on their bus/train/plane connections. Tentative Daily Schedule This is very similar to last year's schedule, with minor modifications. 8:00 - 9:00 Breakfast
