LIBERTY CAMP 2005, TRAKAI, LITHUANIA

by Andrea Fuchs

I have been a long time supporter of free thinking and interested in liberty and classical liberalism. I wanted to know more about a movement for decentralized power, free market economies, and the creation of a free and open society all around the world.

I attended my first Liberty English Camp in Lithuania (Palanga) in 2001. Since then, I have taken part in three additional camps. Thanks to the teachers at the camp, I have learned more about the liberty movement, democracy in society, and human rights.

I think I can say that every one of the participants at the summer camps has played an important role in my life, and they are all unforgettable. The camp activities encouraged the children, teenagers, and students as representatives of the younger generation from the different countries to learn to take the first steps and to take part in solving social problems and building a democratic society in their countries.

All the students at the camp had a chance to acquaint themselves with the principles of classical liberalism, to study English, to participate in discussions, to prove/show their talent, and to have fun. The courses I took reinforced my English knowledge and interest in liberty studies. The camp has also broken my language barrier. Common activities help me to think with, communicate, and understand others.

Meetings with remarkable people were very encouraging for me and have changed my attitude toward life. I always return home after the camp inspired, energized, and motivated to carry on the fight in my life.
